Teardrop Tattoo Designs

Teardrop tattoos are little tear shaped tattoo design placed under the eyes or anywhere on body, and it creates an impression that the tattoo bearer is weeping. A teardrop tattoo has many stories associated with its origin and its symbolism. What’s the meaning of a teardrop tattoo is still a debatable issue, but according to some of the narratives it means that someone from family, a close friend or member of the gang has passed away.

The world of tattoos is quite substantial and fascinating with thousands of designs having different significance. The tear drop tattoo is a tattoo that has had many meanings. The history of the salty droplets oozing from eyes and carved as tats dates back to the era of 1920s or even elderly. In those times a person seen with a tear drop tattoo meant that he was incarcerated or killed someone or both. It was also a gang identifier as members wore them on their different body parts. However, with changing times the teardrop tattoos have acquired new meanings.

Teardrop tattoo designs are greatly symbolic tats, and due to their usual arrangement on the face should never be undertaken casually. It is a tattoo that is certainly more often than not related to prison tattoos and membership in a gang, and as a tat symbol, will be treated appropriately.

Now a days, they are also worn by persons that have lost a beloved one. It truly is a way of expressing one’s despair and sorrow. Mainly the tear drop tattoo is carved below the eyes but fingers and other areas are also popular with the people. This tattoo has been also seen on the body of many celebs like Kreayshawn, Amy Winehouse, Lil Wayne etc.

It is said the teardrop tattoo originated in the Chicano gangs of California. According to some beliefs, a teardrop tattoo was inked on the individual when he’d killed a man, particularly while in prison. A solid teardrop tattoo means that there was a homicide perpetrated, and if the tat has a clear middle, it was attempting to murder and an empty teardrop symbolizes that a loved one has been murdered. These days, teardrop tattoos are getting popular and some well-known celebs have it.
