What Do Aang’S Tattoos Mean

Aang’s tattoos, or airbender tattoos as they are also known, are a symbol of his status as the Avatar. The tattoos consist of arrows on his forehead, behind each of his eyes, on his wrists and ankles, and also on his legs and torso. The tattoos represent the directions of the cardinal points – North, South, East, and West – as well as the elements of Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, which the Avatar is able to control. The tattoos are also a reminder of the many obstacles Aang has overcome in his quest to become the Avatar. Thus, they serve as a reminder of his personal strength and courage to do what is right.
